Industrial labels live in rough conditions. Before you specify a material, it helps to know what engraved phenolic shrugs off and what it does not.
General chemical resistance
Engraved acrylic and phenolic laminates resist most shop and plant exposures: oils, greases, mild acids and bases, fuels, and common solvents used for cleaning. Because the identification is cut into the material rather than printed, splashes and wipe-downs do not remove the text.
Where to be careful
- Strong ketones such as acetone can attack some acrylic caps. For frequent acetone contact, ask us about a chemical-rated stock.
- Continuous high heat above the material rating can soften standard laminate. Tell us the operating temperature.
- Constant direct sunlight calls for a UV-stable stock so the cap color does not chalk over years.
Match the material to the environment
The safest approach is to tell us the environment up front: indoor, outdoor, washdown, chemical exposure, or high heat. We will spec the substrate that lasts, rather than defaulting to the cheapest sheet.
