Most products use modern multi-layer engraving laminate, the material commonly called phenolic or lamacoid in the electrical and industrial trades. True thermoset phenolic can be sourced when an engineering specification explicitly requires it.

Yes, when UV-stable outdoor-rated engraving material is specified. Outdoor electrical labels should also use mechanical fastening where required. Tell the team where the labels will be installed so the correct substrate and mounting method can be quoted.

Engraved labels can satisfy NEC requirements for permanent, durable, and legible identification when the correct wording, material, color, size, and mounting method are used. Project-specific compliance remains the responsibility of the designer, contractor, and authority having jurisdiction.
