Electrical Panel Label Placement Guide

A great label in the wrong spot still fails inspection. Placement is part of the job. Here is where engraved labels belong on common gear.

Panelboards

Put the main identification label on the deadfront or the inside of the door where it is protected but visible when the panel is open. Circuit directories go on the door. Keep the label square and centered so it reads cleanly at working distance.

Disconnects and safety switches

Identify what the disconnect controls on the enclosure face, near the operating handle. Add voltage and arc-flash marking where the equipment may be worked on while energized.

Switchgear and distribution

  • Label each section and each device so it matches the one-line.
  • Mount plates with the correct hardware for the surface: adhesive on clean flat metal, screws or standoffs on textured or vented panels.
  • Keep typography and label size consistent across the whole lineup.

Consistency is the point

When every plate uses the same material, size, and font, the installation reads as professional and inspects faster. We engrave whole label sets to one standard so the finished job looks like one job.
